Meet our new Business trainer: Jessica Newman
We are very excited to introduce and welcome our new Business trainer Jessica Newman. Jessica has worked in the RTO industry for many years and has a wealth of knowledge and experience which she brings to the Adept Team. We sat down to ask Jessica a few questions so that our students and future students could get to know her.
What made you interested in working in business training?
Funnily enough my Dad is a contract trainer, and when I was younger I never understood what he actually did. I used to think he sat at home on his computer, doing nothing. I fell into it by accident. I started out by conducting internal training; training staff in administration processes and it grew from there.
How did you start your career? What courses did you study?
While I was working full-time I completed a Certificate IV Business Administration. Then once I started working for an RTO, I completed my Certificate IV Training & Assessment. I have also completed Certificate IV in Business & a double Diploma in Business & Leadership & Management .
Has the industry changed much since you started?
What is your advice to anyone starting their career in business?
Listen! Listen twice as much as you speak (2 ears, 1 mouth). There is always someone that will be able to gift you a useful piece of advice or information. You can learn so much from people who have more experience or knowledge, and knowledge is power.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?
Since becoming a mum in February I enjoy spending time with my daughter (Emerson), husband (Zeke) and extended family. I also enjoy playing golf & hockey, going to the gym & walking our dog, reading & travelling.
What do you feel is your best achievement?
Personally, my daughter & family life. Work related; working as a contractor once I was made redundant from a previous employer. It showed me that I have created good networks within the industry & didn't need to rely on full time work.
What is something on your bucket list?
Where in the world would you most like to visit?
New Zealand, America & Japan.
