The Certificate IV in Mental Health teaches you the skills to provide support and services to people on their journey of recovery.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to provide excellent care and support to individuals affected by mental illness.  This includes how to implement community based programs and activities focusing on mental health, mental illness and psychiatric disability. You will learn how to work with trauma, identify and respond to crisis, assist with issues around alcohol and other drugs and respond to concerning behaviour.

Where could I work as a Mental Health Worker?

Mental Health Workers work in a range of settings, such as community based non-government organisations; home based outreach; centre-based programs; respite care; residential services, rehabilitation programs; clinical settings; or supporting people in employment.

Is the course face to face or distance?

Both. Our courses are delivered through flexible, blended learning. Under the supervision and mentoring of your trainer you will be required to attend face to face classes and also complete a few units at home. 

Work experience

80 hours of work placement is mandatory. Adept Training will coordinate work placements for students wherever possible; candidates are encouraged to find their own placement as well. Please note that Police checks are required for undergoing placement.

Entry Requirements

This course requires you to have a good understanding of written, verbal and spoken English and maths (known as language, literacy and numeracy 'LLN').  All students who enrol in a course are required to undertake Adept Training's LLN assessment.

  • Proof of Residency (Birth Certificate, Passport, Green Medicare Card or Citizenship Certificate)
  • Language, literacy and numeracy assessment
