HLTPAT005 Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing
This unit of competency has been developed in consultation with industry and meets the criteria of the Australian Standards for urinary drug screening and oral drug screening.This course teaches the skills and knowledge required to confirm collection requirements, prepare client and equipment and collect specimens via urine and/or oral and breath testing following the special procedures that apply for drugs of abuse testing.
This unit of competency applies to individuals working in collection centres, hospitals, and other health care environments and workplaces where drugs of abuse testing takes place.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.
This is a nationally accredited unit of competency to ensure the participant meets the Standards for an ‘accredited collector’, for the collection of non-blood specimens including saliva, urine and breathalyser to the Australian Standards. The half day program is designed to have you trained to the Australian Standard AS/NZS4308:2008 for the collection of urine or AS/NZS4760-2019 for the collection of oral fluids or alcohol breathalyser.

This course requires you to have a good understanding of written, verbal and spoken English and maths (knows as language, literacy and numeracy 'LLN'). All students who enrol in a course are required to undertake Adept Training's LLN assessment.
