SUMMARY:HLTPAT010 Collect Specimens for Drugs of Abuse Testing
DESCRIPTION:The training and assessment has been developed in consultation with industry and meet the criteria of the Australian Standards for urinary drug screening and oral drug screening. This course teaches the skills and knowledge required to confirm collection requirements\, prepare client and equipment and collect specimens via urine and/or oral and breath testing following the special procedures that apply for drugs of abuse testing. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation\, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice. This is a nationally accredited unit of competency to ensure the participant meets the Standards for an ‘accredited collector’\, for the collection of non-blood specimens including saliva\, urine and breathalyser to the Australian Standards. The online course can be studied remotely and the observation assessment component may be completed via Zoom or face-to-face in Sydney. This qualification will teach you the skills you need as a pathology assistant and/ or specimen reception staff in laboratories.
