HLTPAT001 Identify and respond to clinical risks in pathology collection and HLTPAT002 Perform venous blood collections are units of competency delivered as a course that is an interactive and hands-on. During the course you will learn how to perform venous blood collection with a variety of equipment, maintain infection control and identify and respond to a client having an adverse effect.
To receive a statement of attainment students must successfully complete all assessment requirements for both units of competency. In addition they must demonstrate the workplace assessment requirements for the unit: HLTPAT002 Perform venous blood collections, which includes 35 hours of pathology work. Work placement can be arranged by the college if students are not working in a setting where they are able to perform blood collections.
This is delivered face-to-face. The practical clinical skills required for pathology collection are delivered through face to face, hands on training in the college where a highly skilled trainer/assessor will train and assess your knowledge and skills both in the classroom and in the workplace.
Prior to workplace observation assessment there is a requirement to complete a minimum of 20 successful venepunctures. To facilitate this, you will be required to practice collections on each other in class. You are also encouraged to bring suitable volunteers (over the age of 18) to the college to ensure you can complete all blood collections.

I have secured employment after having completed my Pathology Collection and Drugs & Alcohol Collection course with Adept Training last year. As luck would have it I have also received numerous job offers from pathology centres in direct response to the letters of introduction and resume's I delivered to all my local centres and clinics. The Adept Training method and its students are by far the preferred candidate for employment which has been confirmed to me by those that work within the industry. So thank you Adept, I wish you and all past and present students, good luck and good fortune.
I completed my Certificate III in Pathology Collection in 2016 and was granted a position with Australian Clinical Labs soon after. I am so glad that I did my certificate with Adept Training. I gained so much from my classes especially the practical lessons. The staff at Adept training gave me the key foundations that I carry to this day in my job and gave me the confidence I needed in all my collection procedures. They helped me through out the recruitment process to get my job and the facilities at Adept are definitely the best I've come across. I now work at 3 different hospitals and I love my job. It's a rewarding career to help people in this way. If your thinking of starting a career in Phlebotomy. Call Adept Training now!

I wasn't sure that I would be able to complete this course, but the trainer Kate made the whole experience possible. I never thought that I would be able to perform venepuncture and now I can. Thank you Kate.
I knew a lot of people who had done the course and spoke highly of it. Our trainer was extremely supportive.
