What is Smart and Skilled?

The cost of vocational training is one of the first things people consider before enrolling. For eligible students in NSW, the NSW Government subsidises the cost of approved qualifications through the Smart and Skilled program. With government-funded courses, you may pay significantly less than the standard course fee, or in some cases, nothing at all.

Adept Training (RTO 90991) is an approved Smart and Skilled provider. If you’re looking at one of our accredited qualifications and cost is a factor, checking your eligibility is a straightforward first step.

What is Smart and Skilled?

Smart and Skilled is the NSW Government’s vocational education and training (VET) funding program. It subsidises the cost of approved qualifications for eligible NSW residents, covering all or part of the course fee, and the student pays the balance.

The program is designed to support people who want to build skills, change careers, or move into employment. Funds are allocated to approved qualifications delivered by registered providers operating within the Smart and Skilled courses framework.

Adept Training is recognised by the NSW Department of Education as a Smart and Skilled provider, reflecting the quality and outcomes of our training.

Am I Eligible for Government-Funded Courses in NSW?

To access government-funded courses in NSW through Smart and Skilled, you need to meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder, or New Zealand citizen
  • Be aged 15 years or older
  • Live or work in NSW
  • No longer attend secondary school

If you meet all four criteria, you may be eligible for our government-subsidised courses. The subsidy amount depends on the course, your personal circumstances, and your classification under the Smart and Skilled fee schedule.

Smart and Skilled Courses: How Much Will I Pay?

The subsidised fee you pay depends on your individual circumstances and eligibility level under the Smart and Skilled fee schedule. Funding can cover the full cost of the course for some students, while others may pay a capped co-contribution fee.

What’s consistent is that the difference between the fee for a standard course and government-subsidised courses can be significant, particularly for longer qualifications.
