CCTV surveillance policy
How and why we use CCTV video and audio cameras on campus, how footage is protected, and your rights under Australian privacy law.
Why we use CCTV
Adept Training has installed CCTV video and audio cameras in key areas to provide a safe and secure environment for students and staff.
- Improve safety and security for students, staff and visitors.
- Help investigate incidents and keep our campus secure.
- Protect college property and assets.
Where cameras are
Cameras are placed in public areas, including entrances and exits, hallways, common areas and learning spaces. Signs are posted at the entrance and cameras are clearly visible, not hidden.
Cameras are never installed in private spaces such as restrooms or change rooms.
Privacy and footage
We comply with the Privacy Act 1988 and run our CCTV system in a way that respects your privacy.
- Only authorised staff can access footage, for security and investigation purposes.
- Footage isn't used for any other purpose without consent.
- Footage is kept for a limited time, in line with legal requirements and college policy, then securely deleted.
Requesting footage
Requests to view or release footage must be made in writing and approved by the Director. A request may be approved if it:
- is for a lawful purpose
- directly involves you or your property
- relates to an incident or investigation.
Your rights
You can ask about our CCTV system and how footage is used at any time. If you have concerns about privacy or how data is handled, please contact our administration team.
This policy is reviewed every year to make sure it complies with current laws.
